The lavender will start to bloom from late June. When the Lavender is in flower, we hold a number of special activities on the farm, spreading the range of events (food tastings, tours, massages, etc.) over a period of several weeks while the fields are looking beautiful.
Keep signed up to The Hop Shop’s Newsletter and you will be the first to find out what is happening on Castle Farm when the purple fields are in flower! Alternatively, follow us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter for news and updates on Lavender Season events. You can also look at our Events page here.
Go behind the scenes of our spectacular purple view! From the very end of June, through July, each tour explains the processes of lavender production, from the fields to the distillery, with an expert Castle Farm guide. During the lavender season we are able to arrange open tours for the public. Dates for these are published late June.
Please sign up to The Hop Shop’s Newsletter, or check the Events page and telephone the shop to book on 01959 523219. Each tour takes approximately 1 hour 15 mins. There is a small amount of walking from the shop out to the fields, through the farmyard to the distillery and back to the shop (about 1/2 a mile in total, and some seating is provided at the stopping points). This is on level or firm ground and there is not usually a problem taking wheelchairs along the short grass track at the edge of the lavender fields. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the tours but children can accompany adults.
WEEKDAY TOURS– Please book in advance (dates published in June).
WEEKEND TOURS– Advanced bookings not available- book on arrival only.
Pre-booked Group Tours
Private Group Tours can be pre-booked on weekdays in season to view the fields and oil distillery and to learn about lavender, its cultivation and uses. All group tours and coach visits MUST be pre-booked. The lavender season is short and very busy, so please contact us well in advance to avoid disappointment. Pre-booked group or school visits can be arranged on request to cover other aspects of the farm’s agricultural activities. Each tour lasts about 1 hour 15 mins, but group organisers usually allow two hours for a full visit to give members time to visit the shop.
At the end of each private tour, we offer guests apple juice and lavender biscuits. The cost is £7.00 per person (minimum £105 per group booking). £25 deposit. COACH ACCESS. Coach drivers MUST contact us beforehand to check directions and access arrangements. Access for coaches is from Redmans Lane, via Castle Road, off the A225. The private access road leading directly off the A225 is not suitable for coaches. No coaches are permitted at weekends. To book a group tour, call Phil (weekday office hours) on 01959 523219.
Lavender Aromatherapy Massages
For a unique experience, you can book an Aromatherapy Massage in the lavender fields. Imagine lying on a couch in the lavender fields, with the glorious scent of the flowers, being massaged with our soothing Lavender Massage Oil. A marquee or parasols provide shade or shelter. Appointments are for 30 or 60 minutes and must be pre-booked. Aromatherapy Gift Vouchers can be purchased online or in the shop. Bookings open on the 1st February each year and ALL bookings must be made ONLINE HERE – but Aromatherapy Gift Vouchers can be purchased pre-Christmas for gifts.
On one or two days a year, you can join us in the lavender fields and make a wreath or heart of fragrant fresh lavender. Sign up to our newsletter or check social media to find out what is happening this year.
