Welcome to the largest lavender farm in the UK!
At Castle Farm, we grow over 95 acres of the fragrant crop and extract our beautiful high quality essential oils on site, in our state-of-the-art steam distillery. Our exclusive range of Kentish Lavender Oils, Culinary Essences, toiletries, dried flower-heads, gifts and foods are available online and in our popular farm shop. We hope you enjoy having a look around…
We are proud of the beautiful fragrance and consistent high quality of the lavender and lavandin oils which we grow and distill on the farm. We use these pure oils in our own range of toiletries (soaps, hand creams etc), natural sleep products, candles, massage oils and food essences. They are also sold to fragrance houses for a host of other uses from everyday household products to exclusive perfumes.
We also harvest bunches of lavender by hand every year, to sell fresh during the season, and also to air dry for sale throughout the year. These bunches are used for interior decoration at home or for weddings and events.
The Hop Shop’s unique culinary essences of lavender have provided home cooks and chefs with innovative recipe ideas and made lavender fashionable as a food flavouring – in recent years it has featured in numerous food magazines and on TV. Working closely with local food producers, The Hop Shop has developed an exciting range of lavender foods for the farm shop – from lavender ice cream, chocolate, fudge, jams, cakes and biscuits to lavender salt and chutneys.
The colour and scent of the flowering season attracts huge number of visitors to the farm. Lavender-themed food tastings, wreath workshops, tours, plant sales and aromatherapy massages are held in the flowering season between late June and late July. For more information see our Events page or, better still, sign up to our Newsletter to keep up-to-date so you don’t miss out.
Our carefully chosen garden lavender varieties are available from the shop – you can introduce a little Castle Farm bliss to your own back garden! Find out the best varieties for your garden here.
Lavender plants are ready for sale from the shop from early May but the lavender season really gets underway in mid-June and the glorious scent and vibrant colour of the fields fill the valley until early August.
The first hint of colour appears in early June and we begin cutting the lavender for bunches just when the buds are ready to burst in the latter part of June. Harvesting for oil starts in mid July and continues until early August, progressing through the different varieties as they mature.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND ACCESS
Due to the fact that we are a busy working farm and the lavender is a commercial crop, access to the lavender fields has to be strictly controlled and is only permitted as part of a group tour, or if the location is booked in advance for photography clubs or photographic shoots.
Dogs must be kept on leads and children supervised at all times when visiting the farm shop. Parking by the shop is only for the use of customers while in the shop and there is no access to any other areas of the farm.
