Lavender Season

Lavender season on Castle Farm

Lavender plants are ready for sale from the shop in late April/early May but the lavender season really gets underway in mid-June and the glorious scent and vibrant colour of the fields fill the valley until early August.

The first hint of colour appears in early June and we begin cutting the lavender for bunches just when the buds are ready to burst in the latter part of June. Harvesting for oil starts in mid July and continues until approximately the second week of August, progressing through the different varieties as they mature.

When the lavender is in flower, we hold a number of special activities on the farm, spreading the range of events (tours, food tastings, massages, etc.) over a period of several weeks while the fields are looking beautiful. Keep signed up to The Hop Shop’s Newsletter and you will be the first to find out what is happening on Castle Farm when the purple fields are in flower! Alternatively follow us on Facebook or Twitter for news and updates on Lavender season events.

See more  information on our go to our Lavender Events page or look at our Current Events.

Due to the fact that we are a busy working farm and the lavender is a commercial crop, access to the lavender fields has to be strictly controlled and is only permitted as part of a group tour, or if the location is booked in advance for photography groups or photographic shoots.

Dogs must be kept on leads and children supervised at all times when visiting the farm shop. Parking by the shop is for the use of customers while in the shop and there is no public access to any other part of the farm.
